*Takes on Trendy Topics, that is. Or maybe Tawdry. I’m tired of talking about myself.
Two headlines stick with me from my morning sweep of news sites:
- Prince Harry Tells Anderson Cooper Why He’s Not Stepping Out of the Limelight (CNN)
- Prince Harry Makes SHOCKING New Allegations Against Royal Family (E! News)
I’m beginning to think our boy Harry is all about keeping his name in the news and his face on television. For a foreigner, he’s zeroed right in on what it takes to become American royalty.
There’s also this, and it’s not the first time I’ve seen it:
“Fashy” for “fascist” doesn’t work for me. Nor should it work for anyone. The word is fascist. Call it like it is.
On that fashy note:
In recent You Can’t Read That! posts, I’ve linked to stories about this embattled librarian and the vicious threats she deals with daily. Christofascist groups like Moms for Liberty, bankrolled by the Florida Republican Party and the Koch Brothers, sicced the mouth-breathers on her, along with co-culture warrior Chaya Radchik, who fans the flames of book banning and intolerance on social media under the handle Libs of Tik Tok (no linky fashy fascists … you can look ’em up on your own).
Netflix cancelled 1899. Meh. Okay with me. The first episode pulled me in, but after that, the story didn’t seem to be going anywhere. I could say the same thing about Dark, produced by the same folks, but in spite of that I stuck with it to the end. I had started watching another German show, Almost Fly. That one I loved, but in mid-watch HBO Max pulled it and no one else has picked it up.
I was about to pull the trigger on subscribing to Paramount Plus, specifically to watch a show airing later this month, Wolf Pack. The initial round of publicity made it seem that Sarah Michelle Gellar, the actor who played Buffy the Vampire Slayer (on whom I freely admit to having a crush), would be a regular cast member. But when I look up details she’s not listed as one, and it seems she’ll appear only occasionally — she’s actually an “executive producer,” a big name listed on the credits to draw viewers, more of a bait & switch than anything else, so I may not subscribe after all.
With that, it’s time to pair the new phone to my truck. That’ll probably keep me busy the rest of the day. How’s your new year going so far?
