Squeeze from the Bottom

Remember the metal tubes you crimped from the bottom as you squeezed out the toothpaste? One hears geezers — the same ones who gripe about energy-saving lightbulbs — complain about the plastic tubes we use today, which crimp but don’t stay crimped. How long before Fox News commentators jump on the lead-poisoning toothpaste tube nostalgia bandwagon and it becomes a major part of Trump’s agenda? Come to think of it, where’s some nostalgia for the ozone hole? I can totally see Trump promising his base he’s bringing that back, along with asbestos, concentration camps, and chain gangs. These are the stupidest times.

“Everyone says he is crazy — which maybe he is — but the scarier thing about him is that he is stupid. You do not know anyone as stupid as Donald Trump. You just don’t.” — Fran Lebowitz

Nevertheless, there I was on Friday, representing the Woodford household at the Sunnywood Estates annual 4th of July parade. Only a few residents turned out this year (it was a hot and humid morning), but Lulu and Fritzi did their best to wake up the whole subdivision.

Other neighborhoods may have bigger Independence Day parades, but we have ours and it is enough.

This is going to be a busy week, at least by my standards: a trip to the library today, a haircut Tuesday, a pedicure on Friday. Whew! Honestly, though, Donna goes out almost every day, mainly for groceries but also for sewing group meetups and visits with friends, and I don’t know where she finds the energy.

Stay fresh, cheese bags!
