Not Really a Thanksgiving Post

We’re having a quiet celebration at home, just the three of us. Donna and Polly are cooking while watching the Macy’s parade; I’m banished to the home office with the dogs. Ever the traditionalists, we’re having turkey (a breast, not the whole bird), stuffing, mashed, gravy, cranberry sauce, and a green bean casserole. Donna’s convinced Costco changed its pumpkin pie recipe, so she and Polly are making one from scratch. Tonight, they’ve reserved the family room TV for a viewing of Mary Poppins. Since it’s on network TV (with ads) I’ll most likely return to the home office and stream something on the iMac.

After recent events I can’t say this year more than most, but we have much to be thankful for, and I hope that’s true for each of you as well.

For the wristwatch fans among you, these are some things I look for in a watch, along with some things I can live with or without:

• analog
• mechanical, hand-wound or automatic
• hackable
• indices rather than numbers
• a touch of color

Meh

• lume
• day/date
• see-through back

Nope

• moon phase
• open heart
• power reserve indicator

“Hackable” means that you can stop the watch, set the hands, then restart it at an exact time, as in a flight briefing when synchronizing watches. “Indices” are the marks at the hour positions on a dial. “Lume” is the user-friendly replacement for radium. “Open heart” is like a see-through back, only on the front side. “Power reserve indicators” show how much time is left before you need to wind your watch again, and I say Jesus, just wind the damn thing every morning and evening, c’mon what’s so hard about that?

I had been following the social media account of a prominent (?) QAnon poster, mostly to laugh at the idiocy. Idiocy like this:

Marshmello will take off his mask at the Macy’s Day Parade on Thanksgiving Day. Revealing that it is Freddie Mercury this will be tomorrow, Thursday, November 28, 2024 since FREDDIE Mercury is alive, he is not dead and tomorrow he will return.

I mean, can you even with this shit?

Then, yesterday, he posted this:

It is true that Adolf Hitler murdered millions of people but he murdered corrupt pedophile criminals, a person who murders a pedophile does not deserve even 1 day in prison even if he killed them.

Instead of outrage, commenters doubled down … like this guy:

Yup but the fake news and liberal demons have BRAINWASHED the masses to believe he was a bad person. He got his county out of debt and Gov free that’s why they can’t let people know the truth

They think Hitler was a good guy and Anne Frank was a pedophile? I guess that helps explain why they love Trump and Putin. I can’t follow this person any longer, not even for the LOLs. My god, just the thought that we breathe the same air is unsettling. Some of you will be sharing Thanksgiving dinner with relatives who espouse these and similar beliefs, and my thoughts are with you.
