In an era when “creators” monetize and paywall content, it’s nice to know the old school internet culture of freely sharing information lives on. It’s also nice to highlight the overlap between sharing and hashing.
Paul’s Thing friend Robert Pateman publishes a free online Hash House Harrier magazine. A fresh issue just came out and I want to mention it here, since many of my readers are hashers.
It’s good reading, always interesting; not just this issue but every issue. You can put yourself on the subscriber list by sending your email address to Robert at stockholmbob@gmail.com. He also maintains a Facebook page full of fascinating hash history and discussions, with links to back issues of the magazine. Anti-Facebook? You can also download back issues from the Dubai Desert Hash House Harriers website. And it’s all free, a labor of love by a hasher for fellow hashers.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t also mention two other hashers who give of themselves to keep the Hash House Harrier community informed and up to date on club contacts, upcoming events, and, like Robert Pateman, hash history. There’s Ra, for instance, who took over my old hashing website, the Half-Mind Catalog, a valuable resource of international hashing information. Traveling hasher Hazukashii sends out terrific email digests about international hashing, hash history, and upcoming events (you can put yourself on his mailing list by sending your email address to gotothehash@gmail.com).
I’m taking a class on camera phone photography in November, a birthday gift from Donna. I hope to learn a trick or two. Like most people, I rarely pick up an actual camera these days, so versatile and handy is the one built into my mobile phone, which is always in my pocket. I took some practice iPhone photos last night at our friend Mary Anne’s house (she invited us over for a birthday dinner, as she does every year, as we do for her on her birthday).
That’s Anthony, by the way: Anthony Fauci the rez dog. Too bad we didn’t bring our pups over; he would have liked that. Tomorrow’s my big day, by the way. They say 76 is the new 66. I say it’s still 76, and they can stuff it.
