Longevity

Last night we attended the 50th anniversary party of a couple Donna knows through her bridge group.  It was quite the gala affair, with over 200 guests, an open bar (damn it, I knew there was a reason I shouldn’t have quit drinking), a sumptuous buffet, and surprisingly good entertainment: a classical pianist from Mexico City, accompanied by a harpist, the conductor of the Tucson Symphony and his young wife, a classically-trained soprano, who sang a mixture of opera arias and popular music.

Sometime during the evening it occurred to me that Donna and I will be celebrating our 50th in December, 2015 — just 6 ½ years from now.  We’ll throw a party, too, although with our budget it’ll be more Chuck E Cheese than country club, and the entertainment will probably be a bunch of hashers singing dirty songs.
