Bloggers always say they’re too busy to post during the holidays. I wanted to use that excuse, but it wouldn’t have been exactly true. It’s more that I wanted to be social and spend time with my family than isolate myself in the office to write.
Things are getting back to normal now and here I am in the office, isolated, pecking away.
So. How was your Christmas? Ours was wonderful. Donna and I took the two dogs on a road trip, spending Christmas week with Greg, Beth, Quentin, and Taylor at their home in Las Vegas.
I cooked bouillabaisse for the traditional Christmas Eve seafood dinner. We unwrapped presents Christmas morning and Donna made eggs Benedict, another family tradition. Greg made a big pot of clam chowder for dinner, yet another tradition. Greg and Beth’s friends dropped by to visit. We saw our friend Rudy the next morning, took the pups to a local dog park that afternoon, ate scalloped potatoes for dinner, and watched a Godfather movie marathon on TV.
We drove home yesterday and Polly, who wasn’t able to go to Las Vegas with us, was waiting at our house to meet us. She unwrapped her presents two days after Christmas (or one day after Boxing Day, depending on how you look at it).
As Christmases go, it was one of our happiest. We all loved our gifts, and most importantly loved giving those gifts to each other. As Christmas road trips go, it was also one of the best. Driving was uneventful, pretty much free of traffic, with perfect cool weather both ways. The dogs loved the adventure of a long car ride, held it like good’uns between potty stops, stressed out every night at Greg’s house when Donna and I left for our hotel, fell all over themselves when we turned up again each morning, and were thrilled to hop back in the car for the ride home.

I’ll be learning to use that new camera over the next few weeks. I’m not so naive as to think it’ll make me take better photos, but it should help, especially when I go on shooting sprees at the air museum.
Regular bloggage will resume shortly!
