Drudge Begone

Let me say this right up front: I despise Matt Drudge and the Drudge Report. But I freely admit that I check his newsletter daily and almost always find a link or two worth clicking. Up until yesterday, that is. Here’s the note I sent Matt:

Dear Mr Drudge,

I’ve been checking into the Drudge Report daily for the past three years. I’ve put up with the popup ads, even the tricky ones that manage to end-run the popup blocker in Firefox. But now that I’m getting McAfee PUP warnings whenever I visit your site, I’m done. Your advertising and other intrusive internet spyware hitchhikers are too much for me. Surely you could think of a better way to make money off of your valuable site than to abuse your readers this way. Count me out. Let me know when you get rid of the popups and spyware, and maybe I’ll consider coming back. For now I’m going with trusted bloggers. You are not one of them.

I experienced minor withdrawal pains this morning, but you know what? If Drudge has anything important to say, two-thirds of blogdom will pick up on it and I’ll find out about it anyway. Without popups and spyware.

God bless the Internets!
