Saturday Morning

If updates have been sparse lately, it’s not due to laziness.  I’ve started a new project for the Half-Mind Weblog, interviewing hashers who’ve had an influence of hashing and hashers.  Hashing?  Hashers?  You can read about that here.

Of course, non-hashing life goes on, and I need to get back to blogging about it.  We’re up early this Saturday morning.  The bicycles are pumped up and ready to go.  For a change, the Trail Trash meets at our house today.  Donna and I mapped out a new route in our own neighborhood, one that takes us over a couple of hills to a nearby park with natural springs, and as a bonus, not one but three water crossings.  Should be fun, unless one or more us us get swept away by raging torrents.

You don’t embrace “Tucson” and “water” in the same thought, but here in the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains, rain and snow from higher elevations drain down through arroyos (locally called washes): we’ll criss-cross one this morning.  The springs in the park are replenished by the same water.  Another month or so and the washes will be dry, but the spring keeps going year round.

I added something new to the sidebar, a list of DVDs we’re watching or plan to watch.  Blogs are supposed to be personal, right?  I got the idea from another blog, Cider Press Hill, so there . . . credit where credit’s due.

Now if I were really brave I’d add a list of the books I’m reading and plan to read, but I know I’d leave out the crap novels I actually read and substitute titles of terribly erudite books I have no intention of reading, just to appear smarter.  Movies, though . . . aren’t we all dummies when it comes to movies?

Speaking of which, may I confess that I love Steven Seagal movies?  Can’t stand Chuck Norris or Jean-Claude Van Damme, or any other sort of martial arts movie, but I love watching Steve.  Especially now that he’s getting old, stiff, and fat.  When he fights he just sort of stands in the middle of the scene while someone off-camera uses a circus cannon to shoot small Asian men at him, hard enough that they bounce off when they hit him.  Steven Seagal kicks ass!

Okay, the first member of the Trail Trash just drove up.  Time to ride.

  • I can definitely recommend watching 310 to Yuma – loved that movie. But I can’t recommend Hairspray. I was totally bored throughout. I did not get John Travolta in this role, and the main character was just too short!
