You know, I always thought it odd that the Bush administration would tolerate a non-political independent-thinking military leader like Admiral Fallon, commander of U.S. Central Command. It’s so uncharacteristic of the “surround me with yes men” mentality of George W. Bush and his sycophants.
Well. It appears Bush is getting ready to replace Admiral Fallon with a more pliable commander.
Admiral Fallon, from what I understand, has been a less than enthusiastic supporter of our continued occupation of Iraq, since it ties up U.S. military forces that may at any moment be needed in other parts of the Middle East theater. Well, no big deal, I guess. If we’re all tied up in Iraq (and maybe Iran too) and something bad breaks elsewhere in the region (like, say, Pakistan?), we always have our nukuler arsenal, right?
Update (3/11/08): He’s gone . . . just like that! Oh, by the way . . . 314 days left.
damnit damnit damnit. really? am not at all happy about this…will have to do some asking around about this…
