It’s Full of Stars

When I took Lulu & Fritzi out this morning, they immediately alerted on something up the hill from our house.

Following their gaze, I spied in the distance a large green object. It wasn’t there yesterday. Did it mysteriously appear overnight?

The dogs became increasingly agitated as we approached. Could this be … a Dog Monolith?

Well, if it is, it’s mighty aromatic. So much so that once Lulu and Fritzi smelled it, their fear vanished and they explored every inch, inside and out. Hey, they say when you walk your dogs you should let them sniff to their hearts’ content. I’d say we have that box checked.

My Tucson peeps probably already knew that the great Eastside neighborhood bar & grill, Kappy’s, is out of business. We did not know that, and drove over last night for Friday fish & chips. Upon finding an empty parking lot and a shuttered building, we regrouped and headed for another great neighborhood bar & grill, Thirsty’s, which also has a Friday fish fry. If I had to explain our sudden papist hunger for fish on Friday, I’d say it was jealousy over the traditional Passover Seder dinners our Jewish friends recently enjoyed.

I typically resist going out to dinner but willingly went last night, my craving for battered and fried cod as acute as Donna’s (and I was never Catholic). Not only that, I struck up a conversation with the couple at the next table. Donna was floored … I never do that. But I did, and we had a great time.

Yesterday was Day One of my Ozempic regimen. I’ve been taking metformin for type 2 diabetes, and still am, but am beginning to take Ozempic as well, a drug you self-inject in increasing doses over time (when the dosage reaches a certain level I’ll stop taking the metformin). Yes, self-inject. I’ll be giving myself a shot once a week, a new experience for me. For some reason you don’t hear about that part in the commercials on TV (if it’s mentioned, I must have missed it).

So that was kind of freaky. I was honestly a little wigged out afterward, and that may be another reason my sociable side, normally suppressed, came out to play last night.

Apparently this stuff is expensive and hard to get. Neither my doctor nor I thought Tricare would approve a prescription. But they did, and the authorization letter says it’ll remain in effect through 2099 (which I somehow doubt I’ll live to see). Donna’s hoping the heavily-advertised weight loss effect of this drug will work on me, and if I’m honest I hope it will too.

I apologize if I’m oversharing, but without going into gory detail I’ve decided to drop a few glimpses, from time to time, of the changes that come with age. ‘Cause those changes are coming for us all, and some of you might be curious.

Stay fresh, cheese bags!
