Today’s our 41st anniversary. We’re spending it with my dad in Missouri, who was at our wedding all those years ago. Donna and I were married at the Ratshaus – the courthouse – in Wiesbaden, Germany, on a rare sunny day. We married in the church a few months later, but the civil ceremony is the one we remember and observe.
I suppose this trip is our anniversary present to each other, or at least a down payment – this spring we’ll visit Donna’s aunts and cousins in California, and that’ll be the second installment.
Dinner last night was great. Everyone, or nearly everyone, came over to share the food and visit. Earlier, I mentioned that pasta with meat sauce is a great thing to make when you’re feeding lots of people. So here’s a link to Donna’s family recipe for Italian meat sauce. It’s the real thing, just the way they still make it in Vittorio Veneto. Damn, now I’m all hungry again!
Speaking of cooking, while Donna and Lois were out shopping yesterday, we lads watched the Cooking Channel. So does anyone know whether the Barefoot Contessa cooks in her bare feet? The show I watched, they never showed her below the ankles. Can that be intentional? Me, I should probably cook in steel-toed boots, the number of times I’ve dropped sharp knifes.
My sister Cecelia is starting a home business painting tiles, and we’re going to visit her in her studio today. We’ll probably commission a couple of tiles. I’ve always wanted to commission something.
Happy anniversary, Donna!
