Lucky Us

77F9AD02-BDDF-4268-B012-EE02E5C6467E_1_201_aDonna and I were married 60 years ago today. Through better and worse, thick and thin, good times and bad, we’re still together.

It’ll be a fairly low-key day: Donna’s making a commissary run; a couple of contractors are coming by to give us estimates on work that needs doing; tonight, dinner at a seafood restaurant in town. Donna’s wearing a new watch, a gift from me, nothing fancy. I’m loving the new tilt recliner we got a couple of weeks ago, the purchase of which we justified as an early anniversary gift to ourselves. We’re still talking about a road trip but haven’t made any serious plans.

Thoughts on staying the course as a married couple? Patience, love, understanding, all that. Taking the long view when things aren’t going well or when we’re angry with one another. We’ve been lucky in the health department — I think we’ll have a few more good years together. Of the couples our age we know and are friends with, two have been together as long as we have, and we’re thinking of them today: Greg & Corinne, Burt & Donna Marie, take a well-deserved bow and keep hanging in there.

Here are a few photos I put up on Facebook this morning:

Stay fresh, cheese bags!

  • Paul,
Many congratulations on the Big Six-Oh. I do remember our time together at Camp New Amsterdam. It was one of my best, and last, tours in the Air Force.
