{"id":506,"date":"2009-06-29T13:06:03","date_gmt":"2009-06-29T20:06:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pwoodford.net\/cookblog\/?p=506"},"modified":"2009-08-25T16:08:49","modified_gmt":"2009-08-25T23:08:49","slug":"the-ongoing-saga-of-uncle-arts-beans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pwoodford.net\/cookblog\/?p=506","title":{"rendered":"The Ongoing Saga of Uncle Art&#8217;s Beans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ditalini brought several secret family recipes to our marriage (her wonderful <a href=\"http:\/\/pwoodford.net\/cookblog\/?p=9\" target=\"_self\">Italian meat sauce<\/a> is one), but one I never quite got was the recipe for Uncle Art&#8217;s beans.<\/p>\n<p>Legend had it that Uncle Art made a mean pot of pinto beans, but the few times I used Ditalini&#8217;s recipe I was unimpressed with the results.\u00a0 The beans just weren&#8217;t anything special.\u00a0 One day I glanced at the recipe that came on the package of a pound of dried pintos, and it was basically the same as Uncle Art&#8217;s recipe.<\/p>\n<p>Uncle Art&#8217;s been gone for years, so I couldn&#8217;t ask him about it.\u00a0 Then, a couple of months ago, we went to a family gathering in Northern California, and one of the cousins brought along a pot of beans for the potluck dinner.\u00a0 &#8220;These are Uncle Art&#8217;s beans,&#8221; said Ditalini.\u00a0 I immediately tackled the cousin, but couldn&#8217;t get the recipe out of him.<\/p>\n<p>But persistence (and whining) pays off, and now the <em>real<\/em> Uncle Art&#8217;s beans recipe is in my hands.\u00a0 As soon as I find all the ingredients I&#8217;ll make a batch.\u00a0 If the beans pass Ditalini&#8217;s taste test, I&#8217;ll post the recipe here, so check back.<\/p>\n<p>More soon, fellow tooters!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ditalini brought several secret family recipes to our marriage (her wonderful Italian meat sauce is one), but one I never quite got was the recipe for Uncle Art&#8217;s beans.
