{"id":9768,"date":"2012-04-20T16:28:04","date_gmt":"2012-04-20T23:28:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pwoodford.net\/blog\/?p=9768"},"modified":"2012-04-20T16:28:04","modified_gmt":"2012-04-20T23:28:04","slug":"craigslist-scammers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pwoodford.net\/blog\/?p=9768","title":{"rendered":"Craigslist Scammers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Man, they are flat on it! \u00a0Yesterday, when I picked up the project bike, I told my friend I&#8217;d help her sell two older bikes her late husband had in storage, his homebuilt racing bike and a mid- to late-60s Ducati single he was planning to restore. \u00a0She doesn&#8217;t have an internet connection, so I said I&#8217;d put them on Craigslist and have interested buyers contact me first in order to weed out the tire kickers, home invader types, and scammers. \u00a0The first scammer popped up within an hour. \u00a0Here&#8217;s the money shot:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8230; will like to purchase\u00a0it out rightly,i want to be the best offer by adding $100 to your\u00a0money then keep other offers off and i will be paying you via my\u00a0PayPal\u00a0\u00a0account,I will also like you to send me your PayPal\u00a0details(PayPal e-mail address) so i can effect payment to you\u00a0\u00a0right\u00a0away and make sure you get back to me so that we can arrange for pick\u00a0up as i will like the item to be picked,so no shipping included as i\u00a0have arrange for how is going to be pick up after the payment as been\u00a0proceed.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Paypal. \u00a0Fractured English. \u00a0That&#8217;s two strikes, and that&#8217;s enough for me &#8230; he&#8217;s out. \u00a0But here&#8217;s the good news. \u00a0My friend called this morning to tell me that one of the other responders I put her in touch with gave her cash for both bikes and took them away, and she&#8217;s delighted.<\/p>\n<p>After I heard from the scammer, I worried that assholes like him had ruined Craigslist. \u00a0But now my faith is restored. \u00a0You just have to keep it local. \u00a0List locally (in this case, on Craigslist Tucson), and look for a local buyer who&#8217;s willing to do a face-to-face cash transaction. \u00a0Paypal, my ass.<\/p>\n<p>Any motorcycle restorers or collectors out there?
