{"id":823,"date":"2008-11-23T09:59:36","date_gmt":"2008-11-23T16:59:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pwoodford.net\/blog\/?p=823"},"modified":"2008-11-23T10:06:15","modified_gmt":"2008-11-23T17:06:15","slug":"basking-in-glory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pwoodford.net\/blog\/?p=823","title":{"rendered":"Basking in Glory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>And deservedly so!\u00a0 One year ago, Darrell and I rode the 35-mile section of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbaa.com\/!ETT\/ETThome.html\" target=\"_blank\">El Tour de Tucson<\/a>, Tucson&#8217;s big bicycle event.\u00a0  Our friends, the rest of the <a href=\"http:\/\/pwoodford.net\/blog\/?p=291\" target=\"_self\">Trail Trash<\/a> riding group, drove us to the start and met us at the end.\u00a0  Envying our athletic success and glow of accomplishment, they promised that next year they&#8217;d ride El Tour with us.\u00a0  Big talk, right?<\/p>\n<p>But they did it.\u00a0 We did it.\u00a0 Over the past few months, we&#8217;ve taken longer and longer rides, and yesterday that training paid off.\u00a0  We felt strong, we rode strong, and all five of us finished within a few minutes of each other.<\/p>\n<p>We rode light.\u00a0 Since I didn&#8217;t want to burden myself with a camera we&#8217;ll have to wait for our official photos to arrive, which I&#8217;ll post later.\u00a0 I did have a camera in the car, though, and we asked our waitress to take this photo after the ride:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_827\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-827\" style=\"width: 425px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/pwoodford.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/11-22-08_11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-827\" title=\"click for larger image\" src=\"http:\/\/pwoodford.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/11-22-08_11.jpg\" alt=\"The Trail Trash: Paul, Donna, Darrell, Lorri, Mary Anne\" width=\"425\" height=\"319\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-827\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Trail Trash: Paul, Donna, Darrell, Lorri, Mary Anne<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>There we are \u2014 we few, we happy few, we band of riders \u2014 waiting for <em>tapas<\/em> at a Spanish restaurant in downtown Tucson, where we devoured little plates of <em>ensaladitta rusa<\/em>, <em>salm\u00f3n ahumado con pasta de anchoas<\/em>, <em>chorizo palacios<\/em>, <em>pollo al ajillo<\/em>, <em>gambas al ajillo<\/em>, <em>mejillones al vapor<\/em>, <em>revueltos de esparr\u00e1gos y gambas<\/em>, and <em>pescaitos fritos<\/em>. How could we have lived in Tucson for over 11 years and not known about this place?
