{"id":721,"date":"2008-10-25T16:26:10","date_gmt":"2008-10-25T23:26:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pwoodford.net\/blog\/?p=721"},"modified":"2008-10-25T16:34:50","modified_gmt":"2008-10-25T23:34:50","slug":"street-corner-truckometer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pwoodford.net\/blog\/?p=721","title":{"rendered":"Street Corner Truckometer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Until a few months ago, our local Ford dealer was all about trucks.\u00a0 He kept several on display on a raised semicircular platform out front where passing drivers could see them.\u00a0 Not the regular F-150 pickups you and I might buy; but the huge F-250s and F-350s ranchers, horse breeders, and NASCAR fans favor.<\/p>\n<p>Then gas hit 3.98 and diesel came close to 5.00.\u00a0 Suddenly the platform was bereft of trucks; in their place was a pathetic lineup of Focuses (Focii?) and Fusions.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_722\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-722\" style=\"width: 425px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-722\" title=\"10-25-08_3\" src=\"http:\/\/pwoodford.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/10-25-08_3.jpg\" alt=\"The trucks are back!\" width=\"425\" height=\"367\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-722\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">They&#39;re baaaaack!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Well, as of this week you can find regular for 2.78 in Tucson, and the trucks are back.\u00a0 F-150s for now (low-end ones, judging from the lack of chrome); if gas gets any cheaper, the big boys will shoulder them off the platform.<\/p>\n<p>Of course no one can get a loan, so I&#8217;m not sure who&#8217;s buying all these trucks.<\/p>\n<p>My street corner truckometer\u2122.\u00a0 It&#8217;s telling me something but I&#8217;m not sure what, exactly.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Until a few months ago, our local Ford dealer was all about trucks.\u00a0 He kept several on display on a raised semicircular platform out front where passing drivers could see them.\u00a0 Not the regular F-150 pickups you and I might buy; but the huge F-250s and F-350s ranchers, horse breeders, and NASCAR fans favor.
