I plan to retire at the end of the month and go on Social Security.\u00a0 This morning my financial advisor suggested I put off retirement until the economy recovers.<\/p>\n
My first thought?\u00a0 If I don’t go on Social Security now \u2014 now as in before the end of this year if not sooner \u2014 Social Security may not be there.\u00a0 They won’t cut off payments to those already in the system \u2014 there’d be coast-to-coast riots \u2014 but they might well cut it off for those who have not yet reached retirement age.\u00a0 So I’m sticking to my plan.\u00a0 I can work part time if I have to.<\/p>\n
This is the paranoia that comes from living through eight years of the Bush\/Cheney administration.\u00a0 I would absolutely not put anything past these guys.\u00a0 Shit, in spite of the current crash and looming worldwide depression, they’re probably still making plans to privatize Social Security.<\/p>\n
Privatization?\u00a0 Would that be anything like my IRA?\u00a0 The one from which $10,000 has disappeared in the past nine months?<\/p>\n
