{"id":6282,"date":"2011-05-27T16:55:39","date_gmt":"2011-05-27T23:55:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pwoodford.net\/blog\/?p=6282"},"modified":"2011-05-27T16:55:39","modified_gmt":"2011-05-27T23:55:39","slug":"the-tour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pwoodford.net\/blog\/?p=6282","title":{"rendered":"The Tour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"130\" height=\"172\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6283\" style=\"margin: 10px; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 130px; height: 172px;\" title=\"air museum_1\" src=\"http:\/\/pwoodford.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/air-museum_1.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>I led my first tour at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pimaair.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pima Air and Space Museum<\/a> this morning.\u00a0 How&#8217;d it go?\u00a0 Pretty well, I think.<\/p>\n<p>My friend Frank brought a group of 25 wedding guests to the museum this morning.\u00a0 It wasn&#8217;t an &#8220;official&#8221; tour with regular air museum guests &#8230; my first one of those is next Wednesday morning &#8230; but I led it as if it was: an hour inside the main hangar, guiding them to several historic and notable aircraft and talking about each, followed by an hour in our WWII hangars, talking about significant planes from that era.<\/p>\n<p>I remembered most of the facts and figures my mentors have been stuffing into my noggin, but more importantly remembered the big picture stuff about the development of aviation.\u00a0 Most importantly, I remembered to stay on schedule.\u00a0 The guests seemed to enjoy it &#8230; and so did I.<\/p>\n<p>This was a shakedown cruise.\u00a0 What did I learn?\u00a0 Well, talking for two straight hours makes me hoarse.\u00a0 Some of the docents use portable amplifiers and microphones.\u00a0 I thought they were pussies &#8230; now I don&#8217;t.\u00a0 I also understand why all the docents carry water bottles and will start doing the same.\u00a0 Other things I&#8217;ll need: a laser pointer, a pen, something to write on in case anyone asks a question I can&#8217;t answer right away.\u00a0 Things I got right the first time: wearing good shoes and comfortable clothes.<\/p>\n<p>It was fun.\u00a0 I&#8217;m looking forward to Wednesday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I led my first tour at the Pima Air and Space Museum this morning.\u00a0 How&#8217;d it go?\u00a0 Pretty well, I think.
