Here’s how those two things are related:

Tomorrow morning I’ll leave Tucson in a new motorhome, bound for Sturgis, South Dakota. I’ll be part of a two-vehicle caravan, following another company driver towing a trailer loaded with expensive choppers. When we get to Sturgis we’ll park the motorhome and trailer in a reserved section of a campground, then drive back to Tucson together in the tow vehicle.

During Sturgis, the motorhome will be occupied by a face card in the RV dealership’s hierarchy. The choppers in the trailer belong to him and his friends. Now that’s the way to go to Sturgis! No bugs, no sore asses, no dirty motorcycles – just fly in and take a cab to the campground! Make fun of motorcycle poseurs if you will, but this is not a bad way to make the scene.

As for us delivery peasants, well, I’m damned if I’m going to drive all the way to Sturgis and not come home with at least one T-shirt!

Motorcyclists know that Sturgis – properly, the Black Hills Motorcycle Rally – is next week (August 8-14).
