Once there we’d park the motorhome and trailer at a reserved campsite. Over the next few days, five company bigwigs will fly into Rapid City, then make their way to Deadwood, where their bikes – and a nice motorhome to sleep in – await them.

My first reaction was, “What a bunch of poseurs.” My second reaction was, “Gee, this poseur thing ain’t half bad.”

The embarrassing part was explaining to the other bikers at the campground that these weren’t our bikes, or our motorhome, that we were just drivers taking care of the rich folks. Once we had the motorhome and bike trailer positioned, we hopped into the tow truck and drove back to Tucson (got home about two hours ago).

Man, I hated to leave. The Black Hills are spectacularly beautiful, the roads are motorcycle heaven, there are a million things to see and do, and the weather’s perfect (or at least it was yesterday). I can’t believe I’ve never made the effort to go to the rally – I certainly will next year. If you haven’t been, you’re missing an awesome experience. Harleys predominate, but all kinds of bikes and bikers are there, including several Goldwings.

But hey, I’ve been to Sturgis! And I bought a T-shirt!
