The guy in the photo is me, and we&#8217;re on the street in front of our house. The mountains are the Santa Catalinas, north of Tucson, Arizona.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_911\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-911\" style=\"width: 408px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-911\" title=\"schatzi_bike_1\" src=\"http:\/\/pwoodford.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/schatzi_bike_1.jpg\" alt=\"Schatzi in her pet carrier\" width=\"408\" height=\"590\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-911\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Schatzi in her pet carrier<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Donna and I recently discovered that our neighborhood park has two fenced off-leash dog runs, one for large dogs and one for small dogs. We&#8217;d been driving to the park with Schatzi, but today we decided we ought to get some exercise on the way. My son Gregory sent me a small pet carrier last Christmas, and it appears to meet with Schatzi&#8217;s approval.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">By the way, Gregory sent the pet carrier so that I could take the dog on motorcycle rides. Motorcycle, bicycle . . . hey, as long as she doesn&#8217;t squirm out and fall into the spokes, I&#8217;ll be happy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Update (6\/20\/06)<\/em><\/span>: Schatzi does squirm out, but there&#8217;s a little clip inside the bag that attaches to her collar, so she can&#8217;t get all the way out. Still, it makes for an uncomfortable bike ride (for me <em>and<\/em> Schatzi), and is unpleasantly reminiscent of a certain scene in <em>Alien<\/em>. Oh, did I mention the drooling? Looks like we&#8217;ll have to find a larger carrier.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is our miniature dachshund Schatzi.
