Granddaughter Taylor stayed in Las Vegas because, what else, work, but she’s marrying in October and we’ll all be together then. So not a complete family reunion, this weekend, but we take what we get! Here we are at the table Friday night: Polly, Beth, Gregory, Quentin, and Donna.

We suspect the kids’ visit was, at least in part, a welfare check on the old folks. Neither of us fell down in front of them, so that was good. Quentin, and eventually everyone else (including the dogs) gave the pool a workout, its first use so far this year.

Big dinner Saturday afternoon: Gregory took charge of the ribs; I made a low country boil with shrimp and kielbasa; Donna made sides … potato and caprese salads, melons & fruit. Afterward we vegged out to the Eastern Conference Finals on TV … you’d have thought it was Thanksgiving.

Quentin literally towers over me these days: he’s at least six-foot-five and I, a former tall person, have somehow shrunk to a mere six feet. At times like this I try to emulate Kurt Vonnegut’s acceptance of life’s slings and arrows … so it goes, so it goes.

Quentin (I think I have this right) is spending the summer in Reno, where he goes to the University of Nevada, and has one more heavy (18 credits) semester ahead before graduating with a BA in journalism in January. Taylor, as mentioned, is marrying fiancé Jordan in October in Henderson, Nevada, and we’ll be there for that. Donna may do a solo visit in August, but that’s still up in the air.

As always, great to be together again.

[15,2,1601
57,2613
post-36396","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-cooking","category-personal","category-photoblogging","tag-family","tag-reunion
["GET
