Mister B is sixteen today. The lady who runs the dachshund rescue north of Tucson cautioned us about his age when we called about adopting him, and he was only nine then. Seven years have gone by, and if he wasn’t really that old then, he is now, grizzled and gray, wobbly in his hips and tentative in his step, but still frisky at breakfast and dinner time. Here’s the then and now: Mister B on Donna’s lap during the drive to his new home; Mister B earlier this year on a morning walk with his young housemates, Fritzi and Lulu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last night Donna cut up the remains of a Costco rotisserie chicken for soup, saving some pieces for the Gang of Three. I made sure Mister B got the biggest and best bits with his breakfast this morning, and now he’s in the home office doggie bed, lightly snoring as I write. Later this morning we’ll take him on a short trip to the drive-thru at Jason’s for a Sonora dog, which we’ll bring home to cut up and share with all three dogs. Mister B’s throwing a birthday party, and that’ll be the cake!<\/p>\n

You can’t go wrong with an older dog, and we’d adopt him all over again, even at his present age. Happy birthday, Mister B!<\/p>\n
