… it isn’t very long (to the tune of Ta-Ra-Ra-Boom-Dee-Ay). There, taught you a new one, and don’t say I ain’t never done nothin’ for ya.<\/p>\n

I could be coy about it but hell nah, let’s just get it out in the open: I’m 76 today. Old, old, old. Born in 1946, if you can imagine that.<\/p>\n

I know I’ve told the story before, but it’s a good one, and true: in 1956, when I was 10, I read how Mark Twain came in and went out with Halley\u2019s Comet, which visited in 1835 and 1910. I went to the library and cracked open the encyclopedia: Halley\u2019s Comet would come again in 1986. I’d be 40 years old. I couldn’t wrap my head around that. It was inconceivable I’d live that long. My parents weren’t even 40!<\/p>\n

But I did live to see the comet, which if any of you are old enough to remember was a fizzle … a tiny fuzzball with barely a tail. Maybe it’ll put on a better show when it comes again in 2062. I’ll be 116 … and this time I can totally imagine living that long!<\/p>\n

Anyway. I’m wearing a new pair of Levis, thanks to our son Gregory. Polly’s starting a new job at the corner Safeway, and baking my favorite cookies. Hey, the job is gift enough! Donna enrolled me in a camera phone class, scheduled for November 10th. And the biggie, my new wristwatch, which I promised Donna will complete my collection of self-winding mechanical watches. Lord, please help me keep that promise!<\/p>\n

<\/center>It’s an Orient, which Donna suggested dressing up with a blue alligator-patterned band. You can probably see the blue best in the first photo, where I adopt the Classic Watch Pose\u2122<\/a><\/strong>. Personally I like the second photo better, because it has Mister B in it.<\/p>\n
