We had a crowd last night for a pre-Christmas Eve fish fry.\u00a0 Here are a couple of photos:<\/p>\n

I know that shot’s\u00a0poorly composed, but I wanted to show you our new flat screen TV . . . yes, one of these days I’ll get around to hiding the wires.<\/p>\n

Our cajun cook,\u00a0Don\u00a0(wearing the LSU shirt) made catfish po’ boy sandwiches and vinegar slaw.\u00a0 There were\u00a015 of us all together, but only a brave few dared the cold outside.<\/p>\n

Tonight we’ll host our daughter Polly and a few single friends.\u00a0 We’ve been inviting single friends over on Christmas Eve for almost 30 years.\u00a0 In the past we’d feed ’em and work ’em,\u00a0enlisting their help in trimming our tree.\u00a0 This, however, is going to be a treeless Christmas, so we’re just going to wine & dine ’em.\u00a0 The menu for tonight is boiled shrimp and clam chowder<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Christmas will be a family day for me, Donna, and Polly.\u00a0 Our son Gregory, as he should, will celebrate the day with his own family in Las Vegas.\u00a0 One of these years Polly will marry and then it’ll be just Donna and me.\u00a0 Maybe this explains why we’re slowly losing interest in\u00a0the bells & whistles aspects of Christmas.<\/p>\n

But back to holiday menus: I’m going to smoke a brisket for Christmas dinner, which Donna plans to serve with green beans and scalloped potatoes (incidentally – and finally – using up what’s left of last year’s Christmas ham).<\/p>\n
