{"id":29070,"date":"2021-07-09T10:26:32","date_gmt":"2021-07-09T17:26:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pwoodford.net\/blog\/?p=29070"},"modified":"2021-07-09T10:47:53","modified_gmt":"2021-07-09T17:47:53","slug":"i-can-run-but-i-cant-hide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pwoodford.net\/blog\/?p=29070","title":{"rendered":"I Can Run But I Can&#8217;t Hide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"Screen Shot 2021-07-09 at 9.10.45 AM\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailykos.com\/blog\/pwoodford\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51301549645_0991d82273_m.jpg\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2021-07-09 at 9.10.45 AM\" width=\"169\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a>In olden times, weblogs were described as online diaries. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mimismartypants.com\/\">Mimi Smartypants<\/a><\/strong>, a blogger who started in 1999, still calls her blog a diary. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailykos.com\/\">Daily Kos<\/a><\/strong>, the group blog founded by Markos Moulitsas in 2002, consists of diaries contributed by guest diarists.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m a guest diarist at DKos, where my contributions are listed as <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailykos.com\/blog\/pwoodford\">pwoodford&#8217;s diaries<\/a><\/strong>. DKos is phasing in newer terminology, starting to call diaries blogs, but as you can see from the screen grab I took off my DKos profile page this morning, the divorce from diarists and diaries isn&#8217;t final.<\/p>\n<p>When I&#8217;m on DKos I&#8217;m happy to use their terms, but here on my own blog I call myself a blogger. Diaries, to me, are private. Blogs are public, meant to be shared. With anyone. The more the merrier.<\/p>\n<p>Which is why it felt weird to me to change my Facebook and Twitter privacy settings to &#8220;friends only&#8221; earlier this week. My social media posts, past and present, are now visible only to friends &amp; followers. I have my reasons, which I hope to be able to share soon.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, though, here&#8217;s my blog, right here on the internet where anyone can see it. Google me, it&#8217;s the ninth link that comes up. Not real sure what I can do about that. As I said, my blog is public, meant to be shared. With anyone. The more the merrier.<\/p>\n<p>Hope I don&#8217;t have to eat those words anytime soon.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Diaries, to me, are private.
