{"id":284,"date":"2007-11-20T09:14:09","date_gmt":"2007-11-20T16:14:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pwoodford.net\/blog\/?p=284"},"modified":"2007-11-20T18:45:26","modified_gmt":"2007-11-21T01:45:26","slug":"one-click-danger-zone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pwoodford.net\/blog\/?p=284","title":{"rendered":"One-Click Danger Zone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Savvy on-line shoppers probably know all about <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/help\/customer\/display.html?nodeId=468480\" title=\"Amazon\">Amazon&#8217;s one-click ordering<\/a>.\u00a0 If you fall into the slightly-less-than-savvy category, like me, let me warn you: one-click ordering means exactly what it says.<\/p>\n<p>I was about to go to the store\u00a0to buy a Christmas present for my son and his family.\u00a0 Donna suggested I buy on-line instead:\u00a0no crowds, and they&#8217;ll ship it right to Gregory&#8217;s home in Las Vegas.\u00a0 Who can argue with such a sensible woman?<\/p>\n<p>So I found what I was looking for on Amazon.\u00a0 Since I&#8217;d ordered books from Amazon before I already had an account, and\u00a0without thinking pressed the one-click ordering button.\u00a0 I immediately realized my mistake and clicked on the &#8220;last page&#8221; arrow, but it was already too late.\u00a0 Next morning I got an e-mail from Amazon thanking me for my order.<\/p>\n<p>I called an Amazon customer rep (naturally it took\u00a0thirty minutes to even locate a phone number, then another thirty minutes of listening to long voice-mail menus before finally learning which number to press for a live person &#8211; it&#8217;s &#8220;7,&#8221; not &#8220;0&#8221;), but she told me the order had already shipped (this less than eight hours after pressing that damned button).<\/p>\n<p>Because my address is the one Amazon has on file, my son&#8217;s Christmas present is on its way to Tucson, not Las Vegas, and I&#8217;m going to have to pay a bunch extra to re-ship it to him by UPS or FedEx.<\/p>\n<p>Watch out!\u00a0 You can&#8217;t back out once you press the &#8220;one-click&#8221; button.\u00a0 It&#8217;s enough to turn a person against Mammon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Savvy on-line shoppers probably know all about Amazon&#8217;s one-click ordering.\u00a0 If you fall into the slightly-less-than-savvy category, like me, let me warn you: one-click ordering means exactly what it says.
