I have to retract an earlier remark<\/a>: I’m no longer the only member of my cycling group to sign up for El Tour de Tucson<\/a> . . . my friend Darrell’s joining me for the 35-mile event tomorrow.\u00a0 Good, now there’s two of us who won’t get any sleep tonight!<\/p>\n

Why am I freaking over this silly ride?\u00a0 Because El Tour veterans\u00a0tell me it’s a madhouse, with hoards of inexperienced riders weaving to and fro, stopping inexplicably, and\u00a0variously doing whatever they can to bring other riders down.\u00a0\u00a0The whole deal’s\u00a0starting to sound like a motorcycle toy run<\/a>!<\/p>\n

I’m going to ride my\u00a0hybrid<\/a>\u00a0tomorrow, mainly because I’m not yet comfortable on the new road bike<\/a>.\u00a0 If I’m going to drop a bike, I’d rather drop one that’s already scratched up.\u00a0 Darrell’s riding a hybrid too, so we’ll have an easier time sticking together.\u00a0 Oh,\u00a0did I mention there’s a bike hash<\/a>\u00a0Sunday?\u00a0 Truly, this is shaping up to be a lost weekend.\u00a0 No wonder Donna’s concerned about finding time to plan Thanksgiving dinner and get the house whipped into shape before the kids come on Wednesday!<\/p>\n

In other consumer news, we decided to kick Osama’s ass by getting a\u00a0high-definition plasma\u00a0TV for Christmas.\u00a0 With kids and grandkids coming for Thanksgiving, it made a sort of spendthrift sense to buy it now, so we did . . . and now the family room and living room are littered with old TV and stereo equipment, disconnected and stacked\u00a0on every flat surface, and the new (huge!) TV stuff half-installed, with\u00a0loops of wire and cable everywhere.<\/p>\n

I used to\u00a0love installing TV and stereo equipment.\u00a0 Now I dread it.\u00a0 We’re this<\/em> close to calling Comp USA and paying them to set up the new HD TV for us.\u00a0 But we’re going to save the job of reconnecting and reinstalling the old TV and stereo stuff for\u00a0our son Gregory, hoping\u00a0he’s still young enough to get some pleasure out of the task.\u00a0\u00a0It’ll be a test . . . a test to see if\u00a0we raised him right!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
