{"id":25551,"date":"2010-02-22T10:06:20","date_gmt":"2010-02-22T17:06:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pwoodford.net\/blog\/?p=25551"},"modified":"2021-05-11T09:07:49","modified_gmt":"2021-05-11T16:07:49","slug":"motto-blogging","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pwoodford.net\/blog\/?p=25551","title":{"rendered":"Motto Blogging"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cA drinking club with a motorcycle problem\u201d: motto of the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Boozefighters\" target=\"blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Boozefighters Motorcycle Club<\/a>, est. 1946, the original \u201cwild ones\u201d immortalized in the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Wild_One\" target=\"blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marlon Brando movie<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"boozefighters_mc\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/halfmind\/51172415516\/in\/dateposted-public\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51172415516_2aed738510_z.jpg\" alt=\"boozefighters_mc\" width=\"640\" height=\"429\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Someone will probably accuse me of saying&nbsp;hashers can\u2019t use the \u201cdrinking club with a running problem\u201d motto because someone else came up with the idea first.&nbsp;No, that\u2019s not what I\u2019m saying.<\/p>\n<p>What I\u2019m saying, and have been saying, is that much of what we do as hashers has been imported from outside sources.&nbsp;Nothing wrong with that &#8230; it\u2019s inevitable and natural that a social running group like ours will adopt traditions and rituals from other groups.<\/p>\n<p>But there are many new hashers who think hashing has always been the way it is today.&nbsp; Is that harmful in any way?&nbsp;No, of course not.&nbsp;But sometimes new hashers travel, and in their travels they may come across more traditional kennels.&nbsp;Kennels where they don\u2019t have circles, for example, or sing, or use hash names.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m saying that hashers should have a better understanding of their own history.&nbsp;That there are a lot of different traditions under&nbsp;hashing&#8217;s&nbsp;tent.&nbsp;That old-school hashing was and is a simple affair: good mates, good trails, and a few beers afterward.&nbsp;That we should keep our modern \u201ctraditions\u201d \u2014 the circles, the singing, the drinking games, the awards \u2014 in perspective.<\/p>\n<p>Enjoy what you\u2019ve got, but know where it came from.&nbsp;That\u2019s all I\u2019m saying.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cA drinking club with a motorcycle problem\u201d: motto of the&nbsp;Boozefighters Motorcycle Club, est. 1946, the original \u201cwild ones\u201d immortalized in the&nbsp;Marlon Brando movie.
