Before each visit, Donna spends thousands of dollars on home improvements. I suppose Robin does the same thing when we visit her in Michigan. It&#8217;s a showing-off dynamic, like those prairie families you see in old photographs, posing in front of their soddies with all their worldly goods arrayed behind them.<\/p>\n<p>Donna and I come from similar backgrounds. Neither of us grew up with an abundance of money. I understand the showing-off thing. But why this one sister? Why don&#8217;t we spend thousands of dollars when our other siblings come to visit?
