On a motorcycle trip in April 2015 I visited and photoblogged<\/a> the Planes of Fame Museum in Valle, Arizona<\/a>. The Arizona facility is\u00a0an annex of the main Planes of Fame Museum in Chino, California. This time around I pointed my Honda west toward Los Angeles and dropped in on the main facility<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As with the annex in northern Arizona, the main Planes of Fame Museum in California is more than a collection of aircraft and artifacts on display. It’s also a working maintenance and restoration facility, and many of the aircraft at Planes of Fame have not only been restored to flying condition, but are actually flown on a regular basis.<\/p>\n

\nThe prettier aircraft are displayed in hangars, but many others sit on the ramp outside, while unrestored aircraft are crowded into what can only be described as an airplane junkyard. Now I don’t know about you, but I find junkyards fascinating, and airplane junkyards? I was in heaven.<\/p>\n
