{"id":18450,"date":"2016-04-02T09:26:42","date_gmt":"2016-04-02T16:26:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pwoodford.net\/blog\/?p=18450"},"modified":"2016-04-02T09:34:49","modified_gmt":"2016-04-02T16:34:49","slug":"never-read-the-comments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pwoodford.net\/blog\/?p=18450","title":{"rendered":"Never Read the Comments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I follow a retired Royal Navy aviator\u00a0on Facebook, not because I know him but because he posts fascinating photos of older military aircraft, many of which he flew during his career.\u00a0He typically says little\u00a0about his photos, but his followers post comments,\u00a0and up to now I thought they were an informed and experienced group.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday he\u00a0posted this:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1486\/25586509723_073314ce17_z.jpg\" alt=\"screen shot copy\" width=\"619\" height=\"584\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Dear lord, the comments. Here\u00a0are a few\u00a0to give you the general idea:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They will soon be drawing maternity benefit and leave the industry!<\/li>\n<li>Is this another April Fool&#8217;s joke?<\/li>\n<li>Oh bloody hell! Hold on to something!!!<\/li>\n<li>No worries, a bloke will be driving the tug that backs them off the stand.<\/li>\n<li>Plenty of knobs to hang the handbag on.<\/li>\n<li>On this flight, it is no longer called the Cockpit. Instead, it will be referred to as The Box Office.<\/li>\n<li>hOY! THAT WOULD BE A MOSLEM TERRORIST-PROOF FLIGHT!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I learned early on, with regard to other\u00a0aviation-related Facebook group pages, to avoid interaction with other members, because very few of them have any flying experience or background. But\u00a0I was shocked to see so many Beavises &amp; Buttheads among this man&#8217;s followers.<\/p>\n<p>The distilled wisdom of the internet age comes down to four words: Never Read the Comments. I knew that, I should have known better, I read the damn comments anyway.
