While there, we visited\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.museumofflight.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Museum of Flight<\/a> at Boeing Field in Seattle.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a title=\"IMG_1696\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/halfmind\/20713636363\/in\/album-72157658427232066\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5769\/20713636363_29219bd661_z.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1696\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Museum of Flight&#8217;s Lockheed Super Constellation &amp; Boeing B-47 Stratojet<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>To me, any visit to an air museum is special, but this visit was extra-special. My oldest friend, Jeremy, who is now a rare book dealer in Tacoma, drove up\u00a0with his wife Phyllis to meet us there. I hadn&#8217;t seen Jeremy since the summer of 1964. Donna had never met him, and neither of us had met Phyllis before. We\u00a0had a great reunion at the museum.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a title=\"IMG_1651\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/halfmind\/21343013741\/in\/album-72157658427232066\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5668\/21343013741_4b32b0d811_z.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1651\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Donna, Jeremy, and Phyllis<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The Museum of Flight has an impressive collection of aircraft from all eras of aviation\u00a0on display, indoors and out, many\u00a0of which are open and accessible. I particularly enjoyed walking through\u00a0the interior of the Concorde, even tinier and more tubelike than I had imagined, and it was fun\u00a0to see enthusiastic visitors lined up to sit in SR-71 Blackbird and F\/A-18 Hornet cockpit procedure trainers in the main museum building.<\/p>\n<p>Everything is squeaky clean and beautifully displayed, and the volunteer docents not only know their stuff, they wear suits. Suits! That would never work at my museum, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pimaair.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pima Air &amp; Space<\/a>, where summer temperatures get up into the hundreds and teens. Needless to say, I was impressed.<\/p>\n<p>Before I visit air museums, I try to look up what kind of aircraft they have on display. I didn&#8217;t do that this trip, and was floored to discover the Museum of Flight\u00a0has not only a Concorde but also the sole\u00a0surviving <a href=\"http:\/\/www.museumofflight.org\/aircraft\/lockheed-m-21-blackbird\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">M-21 Blackbird,<\/a>\u00a0complete with a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lockheed_D-21\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">D-21 drone<\/a> on its piggyback launch rail. Not only that, another organization was selling B-17 dollar rides (well, a hundred or more dollars, I&#8217;m sure) to the public from a taxiway in front of the museum.
