{"id":1612,"date":"2009-02-08T10:39:05","date_gmt":"2009-02-08T17:39:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pwoodford.net\/blog\/?p=1612"},"modified":"2009-02-08T10:48:29","modified_gmt":"2009-02-08T17:48:29","slug":"only-the-little-people-pay-taxes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pwoodford.net\/blog\/?p=1612","title":{"rendered":"Only the Little People Pay Taxes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>First of all, Barack Obama needs to replace Rahm Emanuel: discovering that Timothy Geithner, Tom Daschle, and Nancy Killefer were tax cheats was his job, and he failed to do it.\u00a0 He certainly wouldn&#8217;t be <em>my<\/em> chief of staff any longer.<\/p>\n<p>This whole rich-people-don&#8217;t-pay-taxes thing has got to stop.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve been having our noses rubbed in it since the days of Leona Helmsley.\u00a0 Clearly, we need an income tax to fund all the things we expect our government to do.\u00a0 It needs to be a no-exceptions\/no-exemptions flat tax.\u00a0 If I give the government 13% of my gross income, and Tom Daschle gives 13%, and the guy who works at Wal-Mart gives 13%, that&#8217;s fair, and most importantly, I&#8217;ll know that the wealthy are giving their fair share too.\u00a0 Because it&#8217;s getting to the point where regular people like me are ready to take to the streets.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1614\" src=\"http:\/\/pwoodford.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/bin-dive.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"373\" height=\"295\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m amazed \u2014 amazed, I say \u2014 that a populist demagogue hasn&#8217;t arisen in this country and swept all before him.\u00a0 Rich people who don&#8217;t pay taxes?\u00a0 Confiscate all their worldly goods and throw &#8217;em in jail!\u00a0 Corporations that outsource jobs overseas?\u00a0 Shut &#8217;em down!\u00a0 Trade protectionism?\u00a0 Bring it on!\u00a0 Hedge fund managers?\u00a0 Exile them to Bikini Atoll . . . forever!\u00a0 Tax attorneys?\u00a0 Well, hell, a flat tax would eliminate an entire profession, one most people would love to see eliminated!<\/p>\n<p>If there&#8217;s another Ross Perot out there, one who&#8217;s not batshit crazy, or a saner version of Ron Paul, now&#8217;s your chance . . .
