{"id":1569,"date":"2009-02-05T12:32:56","date_gmt":"2009-02-05T19:32:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pwoodford.net\/blog\/?p=1569"},"modified":"2009-05-27T15:01:43","modified_gmt":"2009-05-27T22:01:43","slug":"dog-bloggin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pwoodford.net\/blog\/?p=1569","title":{"rendered":"Dog Bloggin&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two Sundays ago, we took Schatzi with us on a rugged hike in the Rincon Mountains east of Tucson.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1571\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1571\" style=\"width: 425px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/pwoodford.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/01-25-09_7.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1571\" title=\"click for larger\" src=\"http:\/\/pwoodford.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/01-25-09_7.jpg\" alt=\"Hiking in the Rincons\" width=\"425\" height=\"567\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1571\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Schatzi with Donna and our friend Dee, hiking in the Rincons<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>She <a href=\"http:\/\/pwoodford.net\/hashblog\/?page_id=13\" target=\"_blank\">hashes<\/a> with us and handles four- and five-mail trails with ease, but there were a lot of big rocks on this trail, rocks two or three times Schatzi&#8217;s size . . . to make a long story short, she hurt her back.\u00a0 The vet gave her anti-inflammatory pills and told us to keep her out of action for a week.\u00a0 We made a ramp so that she could get up and down from the sofa, and I let her sit on a pillow under a warm halogen lamp on my computer desk, where she could look out the window and growl at whoever came by.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1574\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1574\" style=\"width: 425px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/pwoodford.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/02-05-09_21.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1574\" title=\"click for larger\" src=\"http:\/\/pwoodford.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/02-05-09_21.jpg\" alt=\"Schatzi on the job\" width=\"425\" height=\"239\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1574\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Schatzi on the job<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After a few days she was back to normal, but she&#8217;d grown quite fond of her desktop observation post, so I decided to suck it up and find other places for the things I normally keep there.\u00a0 If I&#8217;m at the computer, Schatzi&#8217;s there with me, guarding her domain from trespassing dogs, neighbors, school kids, rabbits, coyotes, javelina, and ground squirrels.<\/p>\n<p>No more ball-buster trails for Schatzi, and we&#8217;re keeping the ramp (not that she&#8217;ll use it!), but next weekend we&#8217;ll let her go hashing again.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t worry, I&#8217;m the hare, and I plan to lay a short flat trail.\u00a0 Schatzi grew up hashing and totally loves it, and we could never deprive her of that.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two Sundays ago, we took Schatzi with us on a rugged hike in the Rincon Mountains east of Tucson.
