Of course, a lot of other people were delighted with it . . . probably the same people who think defending our nation requires us to sodomize Iraqi prisoners with broomsticks, but that&#8217;s another rant.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the part that disturbed me:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Now, while young Americans are dying in the sands of Iraq and the mountains of Afghanistan, our nation is being torn apart and made weaker because of the Democrats&#8217; manic obsession to bring down our commander-in-chief.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Let me get this straight, Zell: our nation is being torn apart and made weaker because we&#8217;re having a scheduled, constitutionally-mandated presidential election, and other candidates are running against the incumbent? Gee, doesn&#8217;t this happen every four years? Do you really think this nation would be better served if we cancelled presidential elections whenever times are tough? These days, when <em>aren&#8217;t<\/em> times tough?<\/p>\n<p>Our commander-in-chief? The president is commander-in-chief of our military forces. He is not commander-in-chief of the nation, its citizens, or even of its government. He&#8217;s an elected official, the head of the executive branch of our government. There are, I believe, two other, co-equal branches. One man is not the boss of this country . . . we fought a war with England over that, didn&#8217;t we?<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll tell you what your speech said to me, Zell: that if I vote for Kerry I&#8217;ll be committing treason. Well sign me up, baby . . .
