Ha! Here’s a bit of 1980s hash nostalgia, a hand-typed and illustrated hare guide from the Hogtown H3, sent to me by Toronto hasher Rose eh. From Rose eh’s accompanying letter: “This was before the internet and email … a fun, hashy read, when times were simpler, but no less beer and shiggy crazed, and [...]  Update (2/21/12): I just heard a claim that the story of Gus Mackey and the 1947 founding of the Bordighera H3 is false, made up out of whole cloth by some hashers at a later date, and then, inexplicably, accepted by one and all — including Tumbling Bill Panton, who lists the 1947 founding date [...] Long title: defending Red Dress Runs from non-hashing poachers … and why it’s important. [...] Here’s the CW (conventional wisdom) on early hash history: Gispert & friends started the Hash House Harriers in Kuala Lumpur in 1938. The club grew and by the start of WWII in 1941 had run over 100 hashes. In 1946, after the war, returning members put the Kuala Lumpur H3 back together and started [...] Just got word that Wolfgang Gust, aka The Wolf, passed away on trail today. Wolf was one of the legendary figures of hashing and I’m proud to have known and have hashed with him. To die while literally on trail . . . now there was a hasher’s hasher!
